Biography

Ripon was the only son and only surviving child of George Robinson, 1st Marquess of Ripon and grandson of Prime Minister Frederick John Robinson, 1st Earl of Ripon. His mother was Henrietta Anne Theodosia, daughter of Henry Vyner.

Lord Ripon entered Parliament for the Ripon constituency in 1874, a seat he held until 1880. In 1909 he succeeded his father in the marquessate and took his seat in the House of Lords. He also served as Treasurer to Alexandra of Denmark, queen consort of the United Kingdom.

Lord Ripon married Lady Constance Gwladys, daughter of Sidney Herbert, 1st Baron Herbert of Lea and widow of St George Lowther, 4th Earl of Lonsdale, in 1885. They had no children. She died in October 1917, aged 58.

Lord Ripon survived her by six years and died in September 1923, aged 71. On his death all his titles became extinct.
